On October 28, Hurricane Melissa, a Category 5 storm with winds exceeding 185 mph, made landfall in southwestern Jamaica, marking the first-ever Category 5 hurricane to strike the island. It is being described as one of the most powerful storms in the Atlantic’s recorded history.

Tragically, there have been losses of life and widespread devastation across the southern and western regions, which were also severely affected by Hurricane Beryl last year. Homes, hospitals, schools, and vital infrastructure have suffered significant damage, leaving many communities in urgent need of assistance. The Government of Jamaica has activated its national emergency response, and recovery efforts are now underway.

Starting today, in collaboration with Office of the Executive Director for the Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, we are launching the “Together for Jamaica” campaign to support relief and recovery efforts.
