Peru’s public health services are in crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As of the date of this donation request, more than 50 doctors and hundreds of policemen, members of the armed forces, nurses, firefighters, etc., have died. The shortage of personal protection equipment (PPE) has further increased their risk of contagion. The Peruvian University of Applied Sciences (UPC) has launched an initiative to manufacture face shields to donate to public hospitals in Lima and the provinces.
The $3,333 donation will finance the purchase of supplies to manufacture 900 face shields.
The Peruvian University of Applied Sciences will be in charge of manufacturing and distributing the face shields and will be the executing agency of the project. The Chapter of the Association of Retirees in Peru will be responsible for purchasing the supplies. The project was approved by the Board of the Association of Retirees on July 1, 2020 and the funds were disbursed on July 14.
