Barely a week after being hit by the terrible Hurricane Eta, millions of people in Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua are facing the threat of Hurricane Iota.
Central America urgently needs our help — first, to address the humanitarian emergency, and then, to begin the difficult task of recovery and rebuilding.
I have been in constant communication with our staff and the national authorities to coordinate the IDB’s support. We will be channeling resources for rapid disbursement and are preparing impact evaluations in affected areas. Also, we will continue to work with our colleagues at the World Bank and BCIE to coordinate our responses.
I am pleased to inform you that, in collaboration with the Directors for Central America and the Staff Association, we have also launched “Central America, We Are with You,” an internal campaign to collect funds for local organizations that are providing food, housing and medical care to affected families. The Bank’s administration will double the donations, up to $50,000.
A general account and country-specific accounts* are now open at the IDB Global Federal Credit Union to receive your donations. There is a general account for all of the countries and also individual country accounts, in case you prefer to donate in that manner.
Together, we can make a difference.
Thank you very much for your solidarity.
